I'm waiting on some little adapter things that go on the end of the hard drives before I can put a hard drive in. Could this be the result of it not having a hard drive installed yet? The drive is physically in the bay, the drive opens, spins up, just isn't seen. I looked in the BIOS again and on page 1 it says "Fixed Optical Drive" followed by "Not Installed". I guess it's the admin password that is stopping me from making changes? How do I get past this password when the bank has no web presence so I can't get a phone number? Can Dell do this, and if so, what is the procedure to contact them and how much does it cost? I'm on disability so I don't really have any spare money so I would have to save for a while.Īlso - when I try to boot from the CD it says first that the primary hard disk isn't present and then says it can't find a CD drive. I kept looking at the pages and on page 7 it shows "System Security" - the primary password says disabled, the admin password says enabled and the configure setup says disabled. I went through the pages and on page2, for setting boot order, it says "Configure Setup is disabled". The 26 both boot fine from a Windows 98SE boot diskette, but on the 8200 I can't even change the date and time in the BIOS. Currently neither has a hard disk, as they were kept by the bank. The asset tags are still on them for the bank, but a search of the net doesn't find a web presence for them. I just received 2 Dell laptops from a woman who had bought them from a bank sale.
